Local information General InformationThe dragvoll campus at NTNU offers excellent conference facilities as well as a beautiful physical setting as it overlooks Trondheim and the Trondheim fjord. The city of Trondheim (Norway's ancient capital and home to the Nidaros Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Rhine) is easily accessible by air and rail, and is itself more than worth the visit. For more information about Trondheim, see www.trondheim.com Please note that the currency in Norway is Norwegian kroner (NOK), not Euro. Major credit cards are accepted in most shops, restaurants, taxis and so on, and there are ATMs on almost every corner. Although the airport shuttle bus accepts major credit cars, the local buses do not, so a small amount of local currency could come in handy. Local buses have a flat rate of 22NOK, which allows you to travel as much as you like within an hour. Exact change is not required. Norway is part of the Schengen area, and many countries have an agreement with Norway waiving the visa requirement. For complete overview and more information about VISA, please visit http://www.udi.no/templates/Page.aspx?id=5523 Maps![]() Map of the city centre, indicating the location of Scandic Residence Hotel, Scandic Solsiden Hotel, Rica Nidelven (Dinner on friday) and Town hall - please note that the red dots by the pictures indicate their exact location. The map also includes a description of the bus central (#5, #9 and #66 will take you to the Dragvoll Campus). We recommend Bus #9, especially for residents at Scandic Solsiden and the Youth hostel (there is a bus stop across the street from Scandic Solsiden) - the hotel/hostel staff will be happy to help you out. Busses have a flat rate of 22NOK. Exact change is not required, but they do not accept credit cards. #9 leaves the city centre every half hour on weekdays (08.00, 08.30, etc) and passes by Scandic Solsiden appr. 3 minutes later. We recommend the following busses for taking you to Dragvoll in the mornings:

However, we are usually able to find somewhere for you to lodge, so please get in touch and we will work something out. Travel Guide - Getting to Trondheim![]() The city of Trondheim is situated on the Trondheim fjord in the middle of Norway in Northern Europe (see map). The location provides for quick and easy access by plane from the European Continent, the Americas and Asia. Norway is a small country and moderate distances also make travel by car or train interesting options. Travelling by PlaneTrondheim Airport Værnes (TRD) is the local airport
of Trondheim and is located in Stjørdal, about
30 kilometers to the north-east of the city center. The
airport offers regular domestic flights to and from most major
cities in Norway, as well as daily flights with service to a
few European cities. Besides domestic and charter flights, there are non-stop
flights to and from London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Prague, Dubrovnik and Murcia. Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) offers non-stop connections to most major cities in Europe, in particular
with frequent flights to the important hubs Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS),
London Airports Gatwick and Heathrow (LGW, LHR), Copenhagen Airport (CPH),
Frankfurt am Main (FRA) and Paris Airports de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY).
In addition, Continental offers transatlantic flights to New York (Newark, EWR). Getting from Trondheim Airport to the cityAirport ShuttleThe airport shuttle ("Flybussen") to the center of the city corresponds with all flight arrivals, and is the simplest (and cheapest) way to get to city. On its route it passes most major hotels in the city. If you are staying at a different hotel, ask the driver for guidance when you purchase your ticket. The shuttles are lined up just outside the arrival terminal. Tickets are purchased after boarding the bus, and the fare is currently NOK 70 (major credit cards accepted). TaxiTaxi from the airport to the city center is about NOK 500 depending on the time of day (night fares are more expensive). There is also an airport taxi service, which costs NOK 250 pr person and has to be ordered in advance. Top of pageTravelling by TrainGoing by train to Trondheim is easily combined with arriving in Oslo by plane as the train passes Oslo Airport Gardermoen on its way from Oslo to Trondheim. (Travel time from Oslo Airport Gardermoen is about 6 hours). See Norwegian State Railways (NSB) for more information. Trondheim Central Station is right in the city center, with walking distance to most downtown hotels. Top of pageTravelling by CarThere are a number of liners that will take you and your car from the continent (Denmark, Germany) or the British Isles to ports in the south of Norway (Oslo, Sandefjord, Larvik and Kristiansand) or west of Norway (Bergen, Haugesund and Stavanger). Most of these have daily departures in both directions. See Color Line and DFDS SEAWAYS for details. You also have the option of crossing the Øresund bridge from Denmark to Sweden and driving through Sweden to Oslo and on to Trondheim.
